Missouri Gaming Commission To Decide On New Casino

By law Missouri is limited to 13 riverboat casinos in which the Missouri Gaming Commission oversees. President Casino in downtown St. Louis closed down in the summer of 2010 and thus freeing up a casino license. Amanda Macias has more from Jefferson City.

Wrap: Since the closure of a St. Louis casino, the Missouri Gaming Commission has evaluated applicants for the past eight months.

Casino Celebration in St. Louis, Isle of Capri in Cape Girardeau, and Paragon Gaming near the Kansas City area are candidates for the remaining casino license.

Public information coordinator for the Missouri Gaming Commission Leann McCarthy spoke about the procedure of this decision.

The Isle of Capri in Cape Girardeau has been projected to generate the highest casino revenue, employment, and gross domestic product than the other two casino applicants.

Wrap: St. Louis lost one of its casinos when the President riverboat closed in July.

Now, Casino Celebration wants to build another gaming cetner in the city.

Also in the running for the state's 13th and final casino license is the Isle of Capri in Cape Girardeau and Paragon Gaming near Kansas City.

St. Louis Development Corporation Executive Director Rodney Crim says that the city of St. Louis stands to benefit from the Casino Celebration plan.

Missouri generated 1.75 billion dollars in the 2010 fiscal year from the tweleve riverboat casinos that are currently operating.

The license is only up for grabs because the city of St. Louis lost the President Casino in July.

But a commission report says that the Cape Giradeau plan is the best economically for the states.
