Patience. That's what Missourians expecting a tax refund need.

State budget director Linda Luebbering says a state revenue shortfall is causing delays in processing tax returns and refunds this year.

Description: "We know that there's a slight delay from past years. Part of that is just the processing time because we have fewer temps on staff, it's just taking a little longer. And then also, just making sure we have enough cash in the bank to make those payments."

Luebbering says the state hopes to get caught up in May and June.

If the state owes you a tax refund, the Missouri Department of Revenue won't say when you'll get it. Spokesman Ted Farnen says paper filers shouldn't expect it for weeks, but electronic filers could see their refundsmore quickly. But again, no promises.

Revenue shortfalls forced the state to cut staff who process tax returns this year.
