Governor Jay Nixon will eliminate more than 1300 state jobs by the next fiscal year.

Nixon's Deputy Chief of Staff, Paul Wilson, says it is always a last resort to lay off people, but it is a reality to business.

Description: "It's very easy to say we're gonna lay off a large number and that puts very real fear into real people, especially in Jefferson City and in the other states where we have large offices."

Because of the cuts, the Governor's budget plan left room for increases in funding for education and expanding access to healthcare.
