Date: February 19, 2007
By: Fanna Haile-Selassie
State Capitol Bureau
Links: HB 189HB 60

Intro: The House of Representatives overwhelming approved two bills to the Senate that would prevent criminal charges for anyone who killed an unwanted intruder in the home. Fanna (Fauna) Haile-Selassie (High-lay-suh-lah-say) was in the House Chamber for the vote. RunTime:
OutCue: SOC

Out of one hundred forty-seven voting representatives, only four rejected the two bills that would ultimately free anybody from defending their home from unwanted intruders.

These bills will move on to the Senate floor where they will undergo the same process as they did in the House Chamber.

The bills were amended to make them more broad so they would resemble other states.

Representative Kenneth Jones is the sponsor for one of the bills and he said it is as good as it is going to get.

Actuality:  JONES.WAV
Run Time: 00:05
Description: As I said last week, I don't think this bill is perfect, but it's as perfect as it's going to get come now to here.

There is no date yet until when these bills will be heard in the Senate chamber.

From the state Capitol, I'm Fanna Haile-Selassie
