JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Holden and southwest Missouri legislators will meet face-to-face this morning to discuss education issues.

The governor agreed Tuesday to meet with southwest Missouri legislators following a letter the lawmakers delivered to his office last week.

The letter was sent last Thursday, and requested a meeting to discuss the "future of Missouri's educational system." It was signed by 13 Republican state representatives from southwest Missouri.

The meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. this morning.

Members of the Committee for Adequate Funding for K-12 Education (CAFE), a group of local educators and chamber of commerce representatives, met with both Gov. Holden and state representatives last week in Jefferson City about education funding. Bob Nichols, chairman of CAFE, said he was glad to hear the meeting would take place, and was interested to hear its results.

"I think it's a good move on both of their parts," Nichols said.
