Union president not concerned with bargaining decision

One local union president finds the legislative decision to block collective bargaining of no significant concern. Stephanie Hockridge has the story.

A Republican-led legislature decided to block a rule by Gov. Bob Holden which would allow workers to bargain over fair share.

The vote means the rule will be put on hold for 30 legislative days starting Jan. 7.

If this decision becomes permanent during the next legislative session, the new ruling will damage a union's ability to be organized and effective.

Yet, Paula Bentley, President of AFSCME's 72nd Council, is not concerned about the decision and currently does not plan to take any action.

"THE PROCESS OF ANY LEGISLATIVE REVIEW IS SIMPLY A MATTER OF ROUTINE, NOT AUTHORITY."

Bentley says this decision has no effect on union members at this point.
