Senators are split on a petition which could make their opinion on transportation useless.
Danielle Douglas reports from Jefferson City.
Business organizations support a petition to increase funding for state roads and police through a tax increase.
The petition would bypass the legislature and go to the people for a vote.
Senate President Pro-tem Peter Kinder says the intiative would save the Senate time to focus on more pressing issues.
However, Senator Ken Jacob of Columbia says transportation matters should rest with the Senate.
