A proposed bill would give a death benefit to the families of Missouri public service officers killed in the line of duty.
Chris Fink reports from Jefferson City.
Linda Pottberg, the mother of a fireman killed in training, says an average of eight Missouri public service officers were killed every year over the last two decades.
The state is not required to provide compensation to survivors.
The bill would give them a lump sum of one hundred fifty-thousand dollars.
Pottberg asked senators to honor those she calls the angels among us.
Twenty-six states offer similar financial compensation to survivors.
