Blunt waiting on St. Louis County to certify election results

St. Louis County is last in line to send a final election tally to Secretary of State Matt Blunt. Elizabeth Gill has the story in Jefferson City:

Blunt needs an official count from each county clerk and board of election before he can certify the votes and send Jim Talent to the U.S. Senate. The deadline for getting the results to Blunt's office is Wednesday.

Officials in St. Louis County say they spent the last two weeks counting over one thousand provisional ballots, the largest number cast in any county. More than seven hundred of these ballots were valid. Board of Elections Director Judy Taylor says the majority of votes were in favor of Democrats, but not enough to make a difference.

Blunt's office expects to certify the results within a few days of Wednesday's deadline. From the State Capitol, I'm Elizabeth Gill.

Secretary of State Matt Blunt will set Jim Talent's trip to the U.S. Senate into motion on Thursday. Elizabeth Gill has the story in Jefferson City:

Blunt plans to meet with the Board of Canvassers to certify the results of the November 5th election. Once this happens, Blunt will get together with Governor Holden to sign a certificate that will be sent to the U.S. Senate. This certificate will give Jim Talent the green light to be sworn in as the next Junior Senator from Missouri.

Blunt is waiting on a final tally from each Missouri County Clerk and Board of Elections before he can certify the election results. St. Louis County, where voters cast cast over one thousand provisional ballots, will be the last county to turn in an official count by Wednesday's deadline.

From the State Capitol, I'm Elizabeth Gill.
