Planned Parenthood's state funding restored

January 22, 2002
By: Robert Sandler
State Capital Bureau

A Missouri Supreme court ruling today forced the state to choose sides in a lawsuit in which the state was suing itself, and Planned Parenthood will again get state money.

Robert Sandler has more from Jefferson CIty.

The state legislature had brought a lawsuit against Planned Parenthood and the state health director over state funding of family planning clinics that provide abortions.

Tuesday's court ruling said that the state must choose one side or the other.

Attorney General Jay Nixon said Tuesday he is choosing to side with Planned Parenthood and the health department.
