Voting made easy...that's the idea behind several House bills aimed at making voting more convenient. One bill proposes an early voting system that would allow voters to cast their ballot before election day and avoid long lines. Bill sponsor Representative Bill Skaggs says he was prompted to make the proposal after discovering that many voters lie in order to vote absentee.

Representative Skaggs stresses that even if the bill is passed, participation would be at the discretion of individual counties.

Overflowing polling places may be less of a concern if the House passes several bills aimed at making voting more convenient. One bill would allow voters to cast their votes up to 20 days before Election Day. The bill would allow counties to individually decide whether or not to participate in the early voting program. Those who oppose the legislation say voters may be confused if some counties vote early and others don't. Bill sponsor Representative Bill Skaggs from western Missouri says voter convenience is more important.

Contents: Skaggs acknowledges that optional participation on a county-by-county basis may cause some confusion among voters, but feels the benefits of voting convenience are worth more.

12 states already offer early voting options and bill supporters think the plan would work well in Missouri.
