The state Highway Comission gave the go-ahead for the fourteen-hundred foot tunnel project on Wednesday. The tunnel will replace a stretch of Lindbergh Boulevard under a proposed future expansion of Lambert Airport.

MoDot's St. Louis Engineer Ed Hassinger says so far, there's no set construction date for the tunnel.

Contents: "The time frame is going to be driven by what the airport's construction schedule is, but at no time will Lindbergh ever be out of service."

MoDOT says the tunnel will cost $14 million. That money will be taken from federal funds earmarked for the airport's expansion.
