Lawmakers want to tighten laws on dog breeders

Missouri has more than 1300 dog breeding facilities in the state, and lawmakers say they need better laws to protect dogs from poor care.

Rep. Patrick Dougherty, D-St. Louis, says dog breeders shouldn't be working if they can't comply with the laws.

Contents: Rep. Patrick Dougherty says either dog breeders run a good shop that ensures the quality of the animal, or they are out of business.

The bill proposes adding one dollar to the cost of puppies in order to hire new facility inspectors.
