JEFFERSON CITY - State agriculture officials said Thursday that Missouri beef producers have little to fear from the recent outbreak of hoof-and-mouth disease in Europe, while outlining precautions undertaken to prevent the importation of the virus.

    . Lawmakers unveil state transit plans (3/20/01)
    JEFFERSON CITY - Several lawmakers have unveiled transportation plans which they say would make the missouri Department of Transportation more accountable to the governor, legislature and taxpayers.

    "Accountability comes before funding. If the wheel is broken, fix it, then fund it," said Rep. Bradley Roark, R-Springfield.

    . Senate bill would connect at-risk students and businesses (3/20/01)
    JEFFERSON CITY - Businesses would receive tax credits for donating money to help at- risk students stay in school if a plan introduced by Sen. Pat Dougherty, D-St. Louis, is approved by the General Assembly. But, Sen. John Russell, R-Lebanon said this plan would be hard to implement because it would take funds away from Missouri's operating money. Instead of offering tax credits, Russell said he would like to see other methods used, such as asking for general revanue or finding another funding source.
    . After a weekend of waiting and wondering, the Senate announced the names of the six people whose postions were eliminated. (03/19/01)
    JEFFERSON CITY - Republicans announced Monday the names of six Senate employees who will lose their jobs under a cost-cutting measure approved last week.
