Cardinals make pitch to leave city, but some state Senators want to knock that idea out of the park

It's going, it's going... the Cardinals should stay in the city. That's what St. Louis senators say about the possibility of the Cardinals moving their stadium out of St. Louis.

Renny MacKay has more from Jefferson City.

The president of the St. Louis Cardinals announced he's not ruling out building a new stadium outside of the city and is looking to Jefferson City for help on this issue.

But Sen. Pat Dougherty, from St. Louis, says moving the team out of the city isn't the right thing to do.

That said he also wants to protect the tax payers.

To deal with the financing of a new stadium, Sen. John Scott, also of St. Louis is introducing a bill, but Scott also says he won't let the Cardinals move.

The St. Louis Cardinals say they'll seek legislation that could allow the team to move out of the city. But, St. Louis senators say that's not the best thing for the public.

Sen. Pat Dougherty says the Cardinals' announcement is just part of the game to work out a deal with the city of St. Louis.

There is about to be legislation introduced to deal with stadium construction, and the bill's sponsor is Sen. John Scott from St. Louis, who wants to keep the team in the city.
