Billboard Restrictions Approved

A billboard amendment ran into a road stop in the Senate. Kyle Elfrink has that story from Jefferson City.

Senator Morris Westfall is sponsoring a bill to place stronger restictions on the billboard industry. But, a new amendment attached forces billboard operators to remove 2 existing billboards for every new billboard they build. Westfall says he doesn't know if he agrees with that ...

Westfall has placed his bill on the Senate's informal calendar while he studies the new amendment. He fears that big billboard operators want the amendment in order to kill off their smaller competitors.

Last November, Missourians voted against stricter billboard regulations. And a current bill on the Senate floor dealing with billboards may meet the same demise. Kyle Elfrink has the story from Jefferson City.

For some senators it's a question of protecting small businesses. For others it's a question of beautifying Missouri. For Senator Morris Westfall it's a question of taking down 2 existing billboards for every new one put up. If that were to be a part of a current bill in front of the Missouri Senate, Westfall says you'd protect the little guys, but run the risk of the killing the billboard industry ...
