While taxpayers have suspected it for years, a judge confirmed that the state does take too much of your money. Refunds may be on the way to Missouri taxpayers after the state collected too much revenue five years in a row. From 1995 to 1999, almost a quarter of a billion dollars was collected in excess of limits. State officials did not realize that too much money had been collected, because tax limits were being adjusted. Cole County Circuit Judge Thomas Brown ruled in favor of taxpayers, stating that excess money collected from 1995-1999 be returned.

There have been no decisions as to when taxpayers may see any returns and the State is expected to appeal the decision.
