Corrections Department Upgrades Victim Notification System

Missouri's Department of Corrections has upgraded their victim notification system. Kyle Elfrink has the story from Jefferson City.

Victims can now get information about parole hearing dates, release dates, and the current place of confinement of their offenders 24 hours a day. Tim Kniest of the Corrections Department says the upgrade allows for faster notification to victims ...

Currently, the department is working to register victims with personal ID numbers. Once done, victims will then have access to all important information about their offenders free of charge.

Crime victims in Missouri now have extra access to information about their offenders -- but will it work. Kyle Elfrink has the story from Jefferson City.

Numerous other states have already tried their hand at an automatic notification system for crime victims. Now, Missouri is jumping in the ring. And although programs in other states have met problems, Tim Kniest of the Corrections Department says Missouri's new system is hoping to succeed where other states have failed ...

Further hindering the new program is that it's expected to provide information to victims on close to 90,000 criminal offenders currently under control of the state.
