St. Louis airport control goes before House committee

The mayor of Cool Valley and a black St. Charles councilman came to the Capitol today/Wednesday to testify in favor of a bill to strip contol of Lambert airport from the city. Aaron Cummins has more from Jefferson City--

It was just a week ago when St. Louis city representative Quincy Troupe charged racism is behind the proposal.

But, St. Charles representative Chuck Gross says that charge was not what prompted him to have black witnesses.

Contents: Gross says he won't go there. He says this is a regional issue and this is about regional governance of a regional asset.

Gross says all testimony was welcome and it had nothing to do with race.

Troupe was present at the hearing, but made no further accusations.

Mayor Floyd Blackwell came to a House committee to voice support for the plan to strip airport control from the city.

He says the city hasn't done enough to help people who live near the airport.

Blackwell says that means the money to insulate homes in Cool Valley is going west with the airport.

But, a lobbyist for Lambert spoke against the bill.
