Intro: Some House Republicans are suggesting a few Democrats are only supporting the governor's stance on partial-birth abortion, because they want him to support a legislative pay raise. Kristin Marinec has the story from Jefferson City:.

Some Republicans say the issue of a salary increase will influence the outcome of next month's veto session. That's when the legislature could override the governor's veto of the so-called partial birth abortion bill.

House Republican Chuck Gross says the Democratic request for more money comes at a peculiar time.

Contents: State Rep. Chuck Gross (St. Charles) said representatives' votes on the partial birth abortion bill may be swayed by the possibility of a salary increase.

Democrat Jim Kreider is asking the governor to call a special session to discuss a possible payraise. Supporters say that would free the legislature to spend next session on other issues.
