Insurance agencies support statewide building codes

Insurance agencies urge the Governor's building code commission to adopt statewide building codes. Stacy Covitz has more from Jefferson City.

The debate over statewide structural codes continues in the Governor's building code commission.

Lawrence Schwab of State Farm Insurance says the building codes will lower overall costs to homeowners.

Schwab says insurance doesn't cover damages caused by faulty structure.

Contents: If the problem is caused by the contractor or whoever built the building, insurance will typically not cover it. Normal wear and tear on the house is usually not covered.
