Death Sentence Appeal

ANCHOR INTRO: Will the Governor commute the sentence of another death row inmate? Karyn Dest reports from the state capital.

Missouri is set to execute a prisoner for the first time since Governor Carnahan commuted the sentence of a death row inmate last month at the request of the Pope.

The Missouri Catholic Conference has filed a clemency application for James Rodden who is scheduled to die Wednesday.

Conference spokeswoman Rita Linhardt says the commutation of Darrell Mease's sentence last month has paved the way for discussion about the death penalty.
