The bill would raise the charge and penalty for the crime from rape to forcible rape. Forcible rape can carry the penalty of life in prison.
Sponsor of the bill, Representative Vicky Riback-Wilson says her motivation for proposing the bill came from students.
The bill will now go to the Senate to be assigned to committee.
