When gamblers pay an admission fee on riverboats they're also giving one dollar to the state of Missouri.
Senators are looking at a bill that would put $3 million dollars of that money into a trust fund for the Missouri National guard.
Some of that money would be used to provide scholarships for members of the national guard.
Senator Joe Maxwell, the sponsor of the bill, says that Illinois provides free public education to members of its national guard.
"So we have a lot of young people living along the border of our state who are deciding to be national guards men and women in Illinois."
Students would have to maintain a grade point average to 2.5 on a 4 point scale to continue receiving the scholarship. In Jefferson City, I'm Liz Cafer for KMOX.
