Income Tax Cut Dies in House

An income tax reform bill dissolved in the Missouri House of Representatives. Jack Dolan has the story from Jefferson City.

A tax bill that would have increased dependant deductions, and given credit for income from private retirement pensions, has been taken off the House floor by it's sponsor, Columbia Representative Ken Jacob. Jacob said he had until noon Tuesday to get a vote on the bill. He blamed the bill's death on opponents who he drowned it in irrelevant amendments.

Contents: Jacob encouraged other representatives to have themselves a free for all; add amendments left and right. But he said the bill would never pass that way. He said it would be so much confetti at the end of the legislative session.

The Governor's spokesman Chris Sifford says it looks like income tax reform has little chance of passing now. He says the Governor is ready to focus on cutting the sales tax instead. From Jefferson City, I'm Jack Dolan.
