Governor Faces Abortion Bill

Governor Carnahan will be forced to take a stand with the passage of the abortion bill. Adam Levine has the story from Jefferson City.

The House followed the Senate and passed a bill further regulating abortions in Missouri. The bill is a watered down version of the original, but it still requires a physician to stay with a patient until their discharge. Additionally, abortion facilities would be inspected annually by the Department of Health. The Department of Health would also be required to provide a program of information and refferal for alternative services to abortion. Republican representative Connie Wible Murray of Springfield says this measure will discourage the practice of abortions by qualified physicians.

Contents: Murray says further restrictions on legal abortions do nothing but limit the single most powerful determinant to the safety of abortions procedures, and that is the skill and the experience of the physician.
